A Bit About Tiun

Meet Tiun–an exuberant and dynamic voice teacher whose passion for music, the voice, and teaching knows no bounds! With much enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to her students, Tiun’s main priority is to help them uncover the true authenticity and uniqueness within their voices. In addition to being a passionate voice teacher, Tiun proudly identifies herself as a lifelong learner and a dedicated researcher. Her insatiable curiosity and commitment to expanding her knowledge are at the core of her identity! A special area of focus for Tiun is working with both adolescent and maturing voices. She recognizes the unique challenges and opportunities that these groups present and tailors her teaching approach to nurture the growth and potential of each individual. Whether guiding a young student through the nuances of vocal development or helping an older singer rediscover their passion, Tiun is a steadfast supporter of voices at every stage of life. In addition, Tiun's dedication to mental wellness in the context of music is another facet of her multifaceted approach to teaching. She understands the profound emotional and psychological impact that music can have, and she incorporates trauma-informed singing approaches to create a safe and supportive space for her students to express themselves and heal through music.

In addition to her role as a private voice teacher, Tiun's passion for music education extends to her roles as the music teacher at the French American School of Princeton and the Musicianship Instructor at the Kodály Teacher Institute at Midwestern State University. These positions allow her to immerse herself in diverse educational settings and share her wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for music with a broad range of students. Tiun also has a keen interest in voice research and has presented her findings at conferences such as the Voice Foundation (VF) and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Her research topics cover a wide range of areas, including the impact of western classical singing on native Asian tonal languages, the effects of music on emotions in collegiate singers, and voice assessments in a collegiate setting. Before her current roles, Tiun worked as a K-5 general/vocal music and choir teacher in the Chesterfield County Public Schools in Richmond, Virginia.

Tiun holds a graduate degree in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from Westminster Choir College at Rider University, an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Kodály certification from Midwestern State University. At the heart of Tiun's remarkable journey as a voice teacher, researcher, and advocate lies a deep sense of gratitude for the mentors who have illuminated her path (Dr. Kathy Price, Margaret Woods, Megan Durham, Dr. Kenneth Woods, Dr. Akiko Hosaki, Melanie Kohn Day, Rebecca Tyree, Dr. Erin Freeman, Suzanne Riehl, Ruta Smedina-Starke, Cheryl Kyle, and Amy El-Khouri). Their guidance and support have been instrumental in shaping her into the passionate educator she is today. Fueled by this profound sense of thankfulness, Tiun aspires to pay it forward by helping others find their authentic voices and discover the transformative power of music.
